Youth is a Train
02:21
|
|||
Youth is a train coming down a mountain
I've been drinking from the bottom of the fountain
you've got yours, and I've got a mine
with a one-way ticket we're coming down the line
please put me back together
when I hit the ground
once set in motion, it cannot be stopped
with cars going way too fast to be hopped
past the point of no return
towards a lesson thats too late to learn
please put me back together
when I hit the ground
we bit into the city like a breaking wave
where the shadows dance on the inside of the cave
suddenly it didn't matter
who we thought we were
as long as we had love
we knew we could endure
please put me back together
when I hit the ground

Don't quit your day job
03:18
|
|||
Don't quit your day job
they told me to say
I already did
I don't expect
my dreams to float
but I would not exchange them
for a boat
with your head above water
and your feet on the ground
how long will it be
before I drown
cause I'm bailing out as fast as I can
what is it? that makes a man
the answer depends on what kind of man you want to be
standing on the shore but im looking at the sea
what i'll leave behind if i push off the dock
how much time is left on the clock?
cause there seems to be a rising tide
my sails are open wide
drop your anchor and let the rest blow away
for what is left its a small price to pay
my decision has already been made
and this moment has begun to fade
like a photograph left out in the sun

Japan
03:00
|
|||
pulled over by a policeman in jeans
for going 14 in a 35
I'm driving my grandma to the airport he just looked at me and sighed
your grandmas got a mustache, a bikini in her suit case
I said, "things aint as they seem."
so he tore me of a ticket to Japan, the land of my grandma's dreams.
"She can get what she needs there, and help us forget the lifes not fair. Down we all go, she was not the first domino."
on the way back I stopped at the store, my head overflowing with thoughts
and the cashier said, "I bet you tell the story to all women in shops."
"I was just makin conversation and you caught my off my guard, life ain't exactly easy, neither is it hard, but this world is filled with sorrow, what can I say? I am so tired of these games we play."
with each door the I open
my heart breaks
what don't I have
that this world takes
I thought love could save me
so I gave it everything I got
but it slipped through my finger tips
no matter how hard I fought
so I have given up
on what is lost
but I am still willing to pay the full cost
though I am overwhelmed by debt,
I got this life on loan
so I'm taking off my skin so I can keep my bones.

Players in the Game
03:41
|
|||
we are players in the game
with pieces on the board
we watched the earth swallow
the bricks you had laid
we are fish on the line
it was the hooks and the way that they shine
till the end we fought
till we were nothing else but caught
first we rise
and then we fall
back onto
nothing at all
my grandpa told me
that "you sleep in the bed that you make"
but it doesn't matter what you built
when the earth starts to shake
so I spend my days
shooting the moon in a game called heart
what is left?
when the world falls apart

Lost
03:52
|
|||
when i was dying
i was only lost
but still my tears
turn to frost
my life was passing before my eyes
things were looking grim
i turned over
and i saw him
wasn't doing so well
i closed my eyes
cut my heart open
and you will see
a spiders web
connects you to me
i had no power
no electricity
i was like a magnet
without gravity
i was floating through the stars
i was floating away and out
i saw nothing
i saw the void
by its pressure
i was nearly destroyed
my heart grew brighter
thought its opposite haunts my life
but love is stronger
and it brought me back to stay
for a while
for a smile
to soften the glow

I have often wondered...
02:27
|
|||
I have often wondered
how come I cant be with you
walkin by myself
down by steamboat slough
when I wrote this song
I went into a trance
and I know theres a chance
back porches
shoutin at the stars
they have nothing to say
and then the closest one
comes and take the night away
thats when my shadow is born
he turns to me and says,
"what is a rose without a thorn?"

This city is a desert
01:46
|
|||
this city is a desert
this city is a desert where I drink
away
my demons
away my demons
away my demons till they make me leave the bar
your silence is a sentence
your silence is a sentence that we share
apart
each other
apart each other
apart each other beyond repair
your silence is a sentence
this city is a desert
does it hurt?
friendship is a goldmine
in whose cavern I am just a guest
my friend
the end
my friend the end my friend
till my heart returns to my chest

My old friend
03:58
|
|||
In an old tradition
of writing a really sad song
what's come over me?
sweet melody
my old friend
he once told me,
"there will always be a place in this world
for a sad song."
now that place is my home
so I pulled out a loan
cause I could not afford to forget
the things I've known
there are places I go
where the air is like hot tubs
people that I know
talking to is warm cigar smoke
slowly rising
with memories inside of me
whose gold surface reflects the light
that sparks my wonder
but they're far and few
like the distance between stars
the isolation of cars
driving down an endless highway
so i tuned into my radio
but I could not tune out
what has come over me
sweet melody
my old friend
down the road
with a couple cassettes
my change is coming
but it ain't come yet

would you trade what's good for what's uncertain?
after all its brought us this far
where do you draw the line?
I'm just hoping that its close to mine
I'm feeling good when we're together
I'm feeling good about us
but these feelings
are hard to trust
cause its hard to determine
would you trade whats good for whats uncertain?
the longer that I sing this song
the less I know which side I'm on
in your eyes
I've been searchin
would you trade whats good for whats uncertain?

Give me a Dog
03:11
|
|||
give me a dog and I'll give you a cat
o no don't say that
give me a dog and I'll give you a cat
o no don't say that
meow
bark
cheerios 2AM
normalize my life
cheerios 3AM
normalize my life
at 4 its golden grahams
soon the sun will rise
and count chocula
will hide
the squeak of the bat becomes the creak in the floor
when the day has come
the squeak of the bat becomes the creak in the floor
when the day has come
I am the bump in the night,
I am the brown apple core
I am the ghost of christmas past
standing on the shore
where night time dreams come to crash
I am the sand in your socks in between your toes
I am the crust-tee black thing in your cheerios
ch-ch-ch-ch0ch0ch
kaaaaashhhhhhhhhhh
give me a dog and I'll give you a cat
o no don't say that
don't say that
don't say that
don't say that
don't say that
don't say that

Lay Low
04:18
|
|||
the fruit has fallen
the candle is blue
the chairs are empty
the clouds are few
lay low
the bottle is empty
the wax is cold
the story is over
the story is told
lay low
frozen ink and letters not sent
the mailman came and the mailman went
I lost my love somewhere in between
I woke in the night from my favorite dream
lay low
the fruit has fallen and the candle is blue
this is the last song I'll ever write about you
the bottle is empty
the wax is cold
the story is over
the story is told
lay low

If you've ever wondered if you'll ever fall asleep
if you've ever wondered if you'll ever sleep again
close your eyes and wonder with all you've got
when you've come to the end of the line
on the track that had mattered
and you've done all you could do
and your dreams lie shattered
close your eyes and wonder with all you've got
cause a dream awaits you
on the other side of dawn
wild roses in my heart
taste the blood they've drawn
on the tip of my tongue
and the good times that we've had
